(ECNS ) -- A group under the Japan-China Friendship Association arrived in Chongqing on Aug. 20.
They are here to voice support for victims of an air raid during WWII, claiming compensation and an apology from the government in Tokyo.
During an aerial bombardment from 1938 to 1944, the Japanese air force dropped more than 11,500 bombs on Chongqing, China's capital at the time.
In 2004, 188 survivors and the relatives of victims formed a litigation group, suing the Japanese authorities for reparation.
During two hearings in 2015 and 2017, the court in Tokyo did not support the appeal by the litigation group.
