(ECNS) - Scientists from China, the U.S. and Germany recently discovered 300 fossilized dinosaur footprints in Maotai Township, SW China’s Guizhou Province. The prints were scattered over an area of about 350 square meters. Scientists said there are still 200 to 300 footprints underneath the loose sandstone in the area, yet to be unearthed.
They believe this area is currently the largest tracksite of Sauropods from the early Jurassic period ever found in China. “The new findings are well preserved and of great significance in helping us to understand the distribution and evolution of dinosaurs in the early Jurassic period,” said scientists. The research team is now working with the local government to roll out a protection plan for the footprints.
