China's lawmakers are set to discuss a draft law on national intelligence at the bi-monthly National People's Congress Standing Committee which kicked off on Thursday until Tuesday in Beijing.
If passed, the law will give authorities new legal grounds to monitor and investigate foreign and domestic individuals and bodies. During the session, lawmakers will also review draft amendments to the Water Pollution Prevention and Control Law, and draft revisions to the Law on Promoting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises.
Under China's current Constitution, the NPC's main functions and powers are to oversee the operations of the government and to elect the major officers of state.
