Detroit is famous for making four wheels but for Zak Pashak, it's all about the two wheels. Pashak founded Detroit Bikes as the city sank into the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. Now his factory can turn out up to 100 handmade bikes a day.

Sensing an opportunity, Jack Ma, the founder of China's E-commerce giant Alibaba, chose Detroit to hold his first ever U.S. conference to convince small midwestern businesses that their future lies in selling across its multiple online platforms.
