Delegations from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Malaysia issued a joint statement on Thursday in which the two countries came to an agreement that the body of Kim Jong Nam will be returned to the DPRK, and nine Malaysians in the DPRK will be allowed to return to Malaysia, KCNA reported.
A high-level DPRK delegation has been in Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur since February 28 to resolve issues arising from the death of Kim Jong Nam, the half-brother of DPRK leader Kim Jong Un, who was killed in Kuala Lumpur on February 13.
Malaysia agreed to facilitate the transfer of the remains of Kim Jong Nam to the family of the deceased in DPRK.
The two countries agreed to lift the travel ban imposed on citizens of the other country and guarantee their safety and security within their respective territories. This would allow the nine Malaysians in Pyongyang to return to Malaysia and the DPRK citizens in Kuala Lumpur to depart Malaysia.
The DPRK and Malaysia reaffirmed their desire to resolve the existing issues in the statement, stating that they will respect the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and fully implement the provisions contained therein.
