Right after a G20 meeting in Turkey, Chinese President Xi Jinping returned to Asia, where he said is the place China anchors its development. In his speech to world business leaders, Xi called for a greater role of the Asia-Pacific region in world economic growth. [Special Coverage]
He brought back views on the world economy agreed on by G20 leaders -- that global growth is still unstable and continues to fall short of expectations. He said in the face of that challenge, the Asia-Pacific region needs to find the right direction.
"We must push ahead with reform and innovation. Carrying out monetary stimulus policies alone is not enough to address underlying problems in the world economy," Xi said.
"We must make greater efforts in promoting economic structural reform and better adapt the supply system to the changing demand structure. The Asia-Pacific region should lead the world in that aspect."
Xi Jinping advocated connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region to inject vitality. He expounded China's policy on implementing the consensus reached at last year's APEC meeting in Beijing, to speed up the construction of an Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area.
"Asia-Pacific members should optimize their supply chain, industry chain and value chain, as well as form the Asia-Pacific scale economic effect, so as to realize the overall prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region," he said.
Talking about China's growth, Xi said China is pushing full-steam ahead with reforms, to ensure it remains one of the engine of global economic growth.
"In the first three quarters of the year, the Chinese economy grew by 6.9%, contributing to 30 percent of global economic growth. Such growth was achieved by a large economy of over ten trillion dollars," Xi said.
Xi also promised that China will continue to foster an open, transparent and fair investment environment.
