    You use "could have" to talk about possibilities in the past.

    It's usually shortened to "could've".

         I could've married someone else but I chose you.

    "Would have" also refers to possibilities in the past.

    It's more often used with "if" clauses and expresses certainty.

        I would have passed the test if I'd got one more question right.
