Tired of the huge crowds at the Great Wall and Beijing's Palace Museum and Summer Palace? Another historical site in the Chinese capital has just opened to tourists. A hill in a southwest suburb has revealed traces of interesting human activity from more than 14,000 years ago.

Shijing Hill is in Beijing's Fangshan District.

This path was cut more than 1,000 years ago.

There are nine caves like this on the hill, which hold stone tablets of sutra and Buddhist sculptures.

They were carved by monks from seven dynasties over the course of 14-hundred years...

Rain and wind are constantly eroding the ancient works.

On the hillside is an ancient royal temple called the Yuju Temple.
