French President Macron congratulates Chinese athletes for Paris Olympic success

French President Emmanuel Macron extended his congratulations to Chinese athletes for their remarkable achievements at the just concluded Paris 2024 Olympics during an exclusive interview with Chinese state broadcaster CCTV on Sunday.

China finished second in the overall medal table at Paris 2024, with 40 gold medals, 27 silver medals and 24 bronze medals, marking the country's best performance at an overseas Olympic Games.

Macron praised China's longstanding commitment to sports, highlighting the nation's huge success in disciplines ranging from table tennis to swimming.

The Chinese athletes made historic breakthroughs in various events, including the men's 100m freestyle, women's tennis singles, the rhythmic gymnastics team, synchronized swimming, women's boxing, table tennis and diving.

Congratulations on China's achievements in various events, from table tennis to swimming, among many others, which demonstrate China's ability to cultivate outstanding athletes and inspire the world, said Macron.

In discussing the accomplishments of both French and Chinese athletes, Macron emphasized the rise of new talents, including France's 22-year-old swimming athlete Léon Marchand, who won multiple gold medals.
