National security authorities uncover case involving individual sending military secrets to foreign spy agencies

Recently, national security authorities in China uncovered a case involving an individual colluding with foreign espionage agencies to steal military secrets, including information on troop deployment locations, weapon configurations, and barracks conditions, according to an article released on the WeChat account of China's Ministry of State Security (MSS) on Tuesday. 

The article begins with the statement “Military security is a crucial component of national security. Military-related information is highly sensitive and is a primary target for foreign espionage agencies.” It then noted that national security authorities discovered the domestic account, named "Winter Night" was frequently in contact with personnel from foreign espionage agencies via a certain social media platform. 

The account was used to send photos and videos of sensitive military information - such as troop deployment locations, weapon configurations, and barracks conditions - from a border area of China to foreign intelligence agencies.

Upon investigation, it was found that the phone number linked to the "Winter Night" account was registered to an 80-year-old man living thousands of kilometers away, who did not have the capacity to carry out such activities. National security officers meticulously sifted through vast amounts of data, tracking leads step by step and eventually identified a suspect surnamed Ni. 

Ni had two years of military service but was discharged early due to disciplinary issues, giving him certain counter-surveillance skills. His furtive movements also added significant challenges to the capture operation. Just as the operation had reached an impasse, national security officers intercepted an order from a foreign espionage agency instructing Ni to steal secrets at a certain military base. Amid the heavy snow, national security officers set up an ambush, determined to capture Ni and bring him to justice.

While Ni was looking around cautiously and taking out a device to start recording, national security officers decisively took action and successfully captured him, making the relentless seven-day, six-night pursuit a success.
