Senior Chinese, U.S. diplomats hold phone call

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu held a phone conversation on Thursday, with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, during which they exchanged views on China-U.S. relations and important issues of mutual interest. Both sides agreed to maintain continued communication, according to a release from Chinese Foreign Ministry.

According to a readout from the U.S. Department of State, the two officials acknowledged the importance of the bilateral relationship to the people of both countries and the world, discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, and agreed on the importance of keeping open lines of communication.

Earlier this week, Ma met with newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to China David Perdue on Tuesday in Beijing. The two sides held a candid and in-depth exchange of views on current China-U.S. relations and major issues of mutual concern, according to a Chinese Foreign Ministry readout on Wednesday.

Ma emphasized that China approaches China-U.S. relations based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, while remaining firmly committed to safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests. He expressed hope that the U.S. will work with China in the same direction to jointly promote the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of bilateral ties.

In meeting with President of the U.S. Asia Society Kyung-wha Kang in Beijing on Tuesday, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said recently, progress has been made in the China-U.S. high-level meeting on economic and trade affairs, which once again proves that equal dialogue, mutual respect and proper handling of each other's legitimate concerns serve the common interests of both China and the U.S.

At the same time, however, the U.S. continues to suppress and contain China's legitimate right to development. Its recent move to seek a complete blockade on China's chips is a blatant act of unilateralism and bullying. China firmly opposes this, Wang said, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
