China calls on U.S. to shift away from maximum pressure approach

China urged the United States on Monday to abandon its misguided approach of maximum pressure and instead resolve issues through dialogue based on equality, mutual respect and reciprocity, after the White House exempted certain electronics from reciprocal tariffs.

Speaking at a daily news briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian reiterated that facts have proven and will continue to show that there are no winners in a tariff war or trade war, and protectionism leads nowhere.

The indiscriminate imposition of tariffs by the U.S. harms both others and itself, he added.
