China offers condolences to family of former Japanese PM Abe

 

(ECNS) -- A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Friday that China extends its condolences and sympathies to the family of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the remarks when asked to comment on reports that Abe was fatally shot by a gunman Friday.

"We are shocked by the unexpected incident. Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had contributed to the improvement and growth of China-Japan relations. We express condolences and sympathies to the family of Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe," said Zhao.
