President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Moon Jae-in on Wednesday named Chung Eui-yong, former top national security adviser, as the new foreign minister, according to the presidential Blue House.

Chung has served as the director of the presidential National Security Office for three years since the beginning of the Moon administration in May 2017.

During his tenure, Chung was deeply involved in the Korean Peninsula peace process, including negotiation between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the United States, the Blue House said.

If appointed, Chung will replace Kang Kyung-wha, who has served as Moon's first foreign minister.

President Moon nominated Hwang Hee, a lawmaker of the ruling Democratic Party, as the minister of culture, sports and tourism in a partial cabinet reshuffle.

Kwon Chil-seung, another Democratic Party lawmaker, was picked as the minister of small and medium-sized enterprises and startups.
