Erick Tsang, secretary for constitutional and mainland affairs of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, said on Friday that the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the HKSAR is fully in line with the principle of "one country, two systems."
The national security law has improved the HKSAR's system of practicing national security under the Constitution and the HKSAR Basic Law, Tsang said at an online forum jointly organized by local think tank Savantas Policy Institute and Hong Kong Federation of Journalists.
Tsang said that the implementation of the national security law in the HKSAR has brought Hong Kong society back on track and marked an important milestone in the practice of "one country, two systems."
He said that upholding and improving the system of "one country, two systems" ensures Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability. The success of Hong Kong depends on the full support of the motherland and the successful implementation and development of the HKSAR Basic Law and "one country, two systems."
Tsang said that since Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the HKSAR government has been exercising "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy in strict accordance with the HKSAR Basic Law, fully demonstrating the comprehensive and successful implementation of "one country, two systems."
