China’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday it had lodged stern representations with the United States about the unveiling of the new U.S. representative office in Taiwan.
"If any U.S. official attends this activity, whatever their excuse may be, it violates the one-China principle,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a regular press briefing.
"We urge the U.S. to honor its words on the Taiwan issue and redress its wrongdoings so as to avoid doing harm to China-U.S. ties and peace and stability in cross-strait relations.”
The new representative office of the U.S. in Taiwan, costing about 250 million U.S. dollars, was unveiled on Tuesday.
Marie Royce, assistant secretary of state for educational and cultural affairs, was one of the representatives for the U.S. government at the ceremony.?
