Senior Chinese military official Xu Qiliang said the armed forces will resolutely support the important decision of the National People's Congress (NPC) to improve the electoral system of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in accordance with the Constitution and the HKSAR's Basic Law and unswervingly safeguard China's sovereignty, security and development interests.
Xu, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks on Friday when he joined the group deliberation of the delegation of the People's Liberation Army and People's Armed Police Force at the fourth session of the 13th NPC, China's national legislature.
