Special: The Second China International Import Expo

Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Pan Weifang on Tuesday said that Jordan is among the 15 guest states of honor to participate in the upcoming China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2019.

In a press conference held at the Amman Chamber of Industry, the Chinese envoy said Jordan was granted a free pavilion at the expo, which will be held in Shanghai from Nov. 5 to 10.

Pan said more than 3,000 exhibitors from 170 countries will take part in the expo.

He noted that China is Jordan's largest trade partner, adding that Chinese investments in Jordan are on the rise, including projects in the fields of energy, garment and minerals.

The Chinese envoy said the expo is an important opportunity for Jordan to increase its exports to China, which will help promote the continued development of China-Jordan trade and economic cooperation.

China announced in 2018 that it would import 10 trillion dollars worth of commodities and services from across the world in the next five years.

Fathi Jaghbeer, head of Amman Chamber of Industry, underscored the importance of Jordan's participation in the expo to explore opportunities to increase its exports.

He said that some Jordanian products, including chemical industries and Dead Sea products, have already entered the Chinese market.

He added that the chamber will host the 2019 Jordan-China Business Forum next week with the participation of several Chinese companies.

Khaled Wazani, chairman of the Jordan Investment Commission, also hailed the strategic ties between the two countries.

He highlighted the importance of the CIIE for publicizing the investment opportunities and incentives Jordan offers to Chinese investors, adding that his commission will open an office in Shanghai soon.

China hosted the first CIIE in Shanghai in November 2018, which attracted 3,617 foreign companies and enterprises from 172 countries and sealed deals on product sales and services worth 57.8 billion dollars.
