The Southern Branch of the Taipei Palace Museum has started a trial service in Chiayi County - this after 15 years of preparation and delays.
Dedicated to Asian art and culture and covering an area of 9,000 square meters, the branch will display such treasures as a Qing-Dynasty "jadeite cabbage" sculpture. The cabbage head with a locust and cricket camouflaged in its leaves is seen as a symbol of fertility.
For the first three months, admission is free, but visitors must book online for the limited visiting quota. All tickets for January have been reserved. Tickets for February will become available from January?20.
