(ECNS) -- China was elected for the first time as the Chair of the 8th Meeting of the States Parties to the 1970 UNESCO Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export, and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property, which opened in Paris on Monday.
Since 1989 when it joined the convention, China has actively upheld the spirit of the organization by implementing a series of domestic measures to prevent and combat the illicit import and export of cultural property as well as the illegal transfer of ownership. Furthermore, China has continuously improved its legal and regulatory framework for cultural heritage protection to align with the principles and requirements of the Convention.
