(ECNS) -- Over 20 artists from Taiwan have been specifically threatened by Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) due to their pro-reunification expressions, with actress Ouyang Nana becoming the top target.
Artists who repost pro-reunification messages or opposing "Taiwan independence" content during certain occasions are considered by Taiwan authorities as engaging in "collaborative behavior" with the Chinese mainland.
Taiwan's so-called "Mainland Affairs Council (MAC)", along with cultural authorities, would initiate administrative investigations, Chiu Chui-cheng, head of the "Mainland Affairs Council," said on Wednesday.
On Friday, Shen Yu-chung, deputy head of the so-called "Mainland Affairs Council," confirmed that a special meeting was held in coordination with the cultural authorities to discuss issues about these pro-reunification artists. The Taiwan authorities threatened to investigate and punish those with particularly severe cases.
Taiwan authorities' suppression tactics have triggered widespread backlash on Chinese social media Weibo.
