(ECNS) -- China's Commerce Ministry on Monday vowed its full support for foreign trade companies to overcome difficulties, saying it would expand markets and promote the stable development of foreign trade.
Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao chaired a roundtable meeting with representatives from 12 trade companies, six import and export chambers of commerce, as well as industrial experts. Their discussions focused on the current foreign trade situation and ways to support the development of foreign trade enterprises, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said in a statement.
Wang said that since the beginning of this year, external pressures have intensified, and the foreign trade situation has become highly complex and challenging. "Nevertheless, China's foreign trade has maintained overall stability and demonstrated strong resilience."
Addressing U.S. tariffs, Wang emphasized China's resolute countermeasures to safeguard its legitimate interests and international fairness, winning international respect, the commerce minister said.
He pointed out that recent high-level economic and trade talks between China and the U.S. reached an important consensus and made substantial progress, laying the foundation and creating conditions for further narrowing differences and deepening cooperation.
Next, the MOC will coordinate domestic economic efforts with international economic and trade challenges, and work together with relevant departments to fully support foreign trade enterprises in overcoming difficulties, Wang said.
