(ECNS) — As payload specialists, astronauts from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions are expected to carry out their first space mission as early as 2026, a spokesperson for the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) said Tuesday.
The announcement was made during a press conference on the Shenzhou-20 crewed mission at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.
The spokesperson noted that after joining the astronaut team, the Hong Kong and Macao astronauts have quickly adapted to their work and living environment and demonstrated a strong commitment during training. All related work is progressing steadily.
At present, they are undergoing specialized training in aerospace technologies.
