CPC members urged to study and implement eight-point rules

(ECNS) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) has launched a four-month campaign to urge its around 100 million members to bolster compliance with a code of conduct that was set 12 years ago.

The campaign, initiated after the annual "two sessions" of the top legislature and political advisory body, will run through late July, according to a high-level circular issued across the Party.

The "eight-point rules," adopted by the Party leadership in December 2012, aim to address chronic bureaucratic issues, including official privileges and extravagant banquets.

CPC members will study and implement the guiding principles of the "eight-point rules" and its supporting regulations during the campaign, with prominent violations of the rules to be addressed.

The campaign will also use cases where disciplinary breaches evolved into corruption to strengthen educational and deterrent efforts.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the Party has launched multiple education campaigns to reinforce members' ideals and convictions, including a 2024 initiative focusing on studying Party discipline.

During his inspection tour to southwest China in March, China's top leader Xi Jinping pointed out that achieving high-quality development requires unwaveringly adhering to the Party's leadership and strengthening Party building.

Party organizations at all levels must make meticulous efforts to carry out the education campaign, encouraging Party members and officials to consolidate resolve, cultivate habits and maintain an exemplary work style to build consensus, pool strength and pursue development, Xi noted.

He highlighted the necessity to work in concert to enhance Party consciousness, improve Party conduct and tighten Party discipline, while coordinating efforts to rectify misconduct, enforce discipline and combat corruption.

Unremitting efforts must be made to eradicate the breeding grounds and conditions for corruption, he said. "It is crucial to carry forward the revolutionary spirit of the Long March and the Zunyi Meeting, and make solid progress in the Long March of the new era with high morale."

The CPC Central Committee has decided that implementation of the central Party leadership's eight-point rules is a key task for Party building this year.
