(ECNS) -- “Chinese approach to modernization is, first of all, investing in education and science, and there is a scientific approach in innovation. By doing so, China creates possibilities and options to develop new technologies. I think there are many lessons for developing countries and Global South,” said Pakistani Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi, during an exclusive interview with China News Network.
Hashmi’s observation on 2025 two sessions
The annual meetings of the National People’s Congress, China's top legislature, and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the top political advisory body, known as the “two sessions,” has attracted global attention.
Hashmi emphasized that the “two sessions” are one of China’s most significant political events of the year, setting the tone for the country’s economic and social development while providing the international community with a crucial lens to observe China’s trajectory. The ambassador believes that as the world’s second-largest economy, China’s policies and strategies exert profound global influence.
In this year’s “two sessions”, he paid particular attention to China’s economic growth and technological advancements. “In the past two years, China was able to secure 5% GDP growth, which is remarkable for a major economy, a mature economy, and a large economy.”
As 2025 marks the final year of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, the government has set a GDP growth target of around 5% in its work report. “Based on what has been done in the last two years and the targets that have been set, along with the activation and intensification of new quality productive forces, I have every reason to believe that China will be able to achieve 5% growth,” Hashmi stated.
He also highlighted China’s remarkable progress in technological innovation, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things, electric vehicles, and renewable energy, which will be instrumental in driving China's economic growth going forward.
Chinese modernization makes global contributions
China’s 2025 government work report underscores the importance of a science and education-driven national strategy to enhance its innovation system. Hashmi noted that China’s sustained investment in education, research, and technological innovation makes global contributions and offers lessons for other developing countries.
He particularly praised China’s contributions to green technology, pointing out how large-scale development of environmental technologies has made clean energy solutions more affordable and accessible worldwide.
Hashmi said he was in Scandinavia 25 years ago, where he did a lot of related research. Ah that time, he discovered that the cost of solar panels or windmills was very high and not affordable. He noted that China’s role in making these techonologies affordable is a major contribution, not only nationally, but also internationally. “This is how we will reverse the damage that has already taken place on the climate front,” he remarked.
As the year 2026 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, Hashmi revealed that the two nations are planning a series of cultural exchange initiatives, including co-producing documentaries and films, publishing books, organizing music festivals, and hosting Pakistani cuisine and fashion showcases.
Additionally, both countries aim to enhance collaboration in tourism and youth exchange programs to deepen people-to-people ties.
The ambassador hopes the 75th anniversary would serve as an important occasion to inject the bilateral relationship with new momentum and new energy.
