(ECNS) -- China’s freestyle swimmer Pan Zhanle broke his own world record and won the men’s 100-meter freestyle on Wednesday night, finishing in 46.40 seconds for China’s first swimming gold medal of the Paris Olympics.

Asked at a post-race press conference whether doping tests have any influence upon him, Pan said, “The test was essentially done under all the regulations., I don't feel there was any difference or influence.”
Pan noted that he took 21 doping tests from May to July prior to the Games and had no positive results at all. “I stay confident that I am competing fairly and cleanly,” Pan said.
“It was no big deal as long as the testing was conducted fairly and according to rules,” he added.
Pan’s perfect performance clinched China’s first swimming gold.
