(ECNS) -- Several super-rich Chinese influencers have been banned by major online platforms for flaunting “wealth and materialism.”
The influencers, including Wang Hongquanxing, Bao Yujiajie and Bo Gongzi drew viral attention on social media by stunning netizens with the extent of their wealth.
Wang, real name Wang Hongquan, was born in December 1993 in Tangshan, Hebei Province. His Douyin (Chinese version of TikTok) account had 4.374 million followers. It was found to be “in violation of relevant regulations, leading to its suspension”.
He once admitted to owning seven properties in the high-end Beijing residential compound, Star River. The total worth of the properties is around 800 million yuan ($110 million).
In an interview, Wang mentioned that he wouldn't leave the house without wearing items worth at least ten millions of yuan. He said he chose to live in a smaller property of around 700 square meters in the compound because the larger, 991-square-meter one he owns lacks natural light.
On May 15, several Chinese online platforms including Tencent, Douyin, Kuaishou, Weibo, Bilibili, and Xiaohongshu intensified their crackdown on content promoting “negative value orientations,” "extravagance and waste" along with "ostentatious wealth and materialism".
