(ECNS) -- A joint police operation has bust three telecom fraud dens and apprehended 250 Chinese nationals suspected of being cross-border scammers in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security said on Tuesday.
A total of 160 suspected criminals involved in fraud and 41 fugitives wanted online were successfully handed over to Chinese police, seizing over 990 mobile phones and 270 computers.
During the investigation of a case involving nude chat extortion in November 2022, the public security organs in central China’s Henan Province discovered that a criminal group led by someone surnamed Liu had set up dens in Myanmar and Laos, targeting Chinese citizens for cross-border nude chat extortion, telecom fraud, involving a significant amount of money.
The Ministry of Public Security later notified Laotian police of their findings, who promptly organized t an inspection.
An official from the Ministry of Public Security stated that they will further intensify their crackdown, continuously strengthen international law enforcement cooperation, and take decisive measures to curb the high incidence of crimes such as cross-border extortion and telecom fraud.
