Temporary houses in quake-stricken Jishishan County equipped with heating

(ECNS) -- The first temporary houses are under construction in earthquake-stricken Jishishan County, Northwest China's Gansu Province.

Seventy-five wind-resistant and flame-retardant temporary houses have been built to ensure that quake victims survive the cold winter.

As low temperatures persist in the region, cold and warm products have become some of the most scarce supplies in the area.

"In Taojia Village, we will build 200 temporary houses, each with an area of 18 square meters, accommodating four to six people," said Ma Yunfei, production manager of the seventh construction group of Gansu Construction Investment. 

He said the rooms use insulation rock wool material, which is flame-retardant, and are heated with electric heaters.

The temporary houses under construction are warmer than tents. 

The elderly, weak, disabled, pregnant women, and children will be the first to live in the houses.

With an ample supply of coats and quilts, aid vehicles also brought small stoves to address the heating needs of affected people.

Next, water, electricity, and public toilets will be taken into consideration.

As of Thursday, the 6.2-magnitude earthquake in Jishishan County has resulted in 113 deaths and 782 injuries.
