(ECNS) -- China’s first museum featuring the history and achievements of the country's publishing industry is set to open to the public on May 18, the International Museum Day, in Yangpu District in Shanghai.
China Modern Press and Publication Museum started its internal test run on Sunday.
Since its establishment in 2003, the museum has been collecting cultural relics. Currently, it has a collection of over 600,000 items, including more than 4,300 types of periodicals published from the late Qing Dynasty to1949, 349 kinds of newspapers, over 4,300 types of textbooks with more than 20,000 volumes, as well as publishing tools such as wooden movable type, lithographic machines, copper matrices, and other archival documents and items used by predecessors in the news and publishing industry.
Various technologies such as naked-eye 3D and multimedia touch screen interaction are used in many parts of the museum. A 3D navigation system based on 5G has also been built.
According to statistics, from 1912 to 1949, more than 300 publishing institutions in China were in Shanghai, accounting for over 80 percent. Of the thousands of books listed in China's modern academic classics, nearly 95 percent were published in the city.
