(ECNS) -- The search volume of international air tickets by Chinese people soared as soon as China on Monday announced that it will stop requiring inbound travelers to go into centralized quarantine starting from Jan. 8.
Data from Tongcheng Travel shows that after the news was released, the search volume of international air tickets and visas on the platform increased by 850 percent and 1,000 percent respectively.
The top three overseas destinations that Chinese tourists are most interested in are Japan, South Korea, and Thailand. Users searching for outbound travel are mainly from Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, according to the Tongcheng platform data.
Data from Qunar.com indicates that within 15 minutes after the news was released, the search volume of international air tickets increased by 7 times immediately, and the popular destinations are Thailand, Japan and South Korea.
However, as China is to remove the COVID-19 quarantine rule for inbound travelers, some countries have begun to set nucleic acid testing requirements for travelers from China.
Indian health authorities announced on Saturday that passengers arriving from China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Thailand would be subjected to a mandatory PCR test on arrival in the country, and the passengers showing symptoms indicative of the virus or testing positive will be quarantined.
The measure comes after Indian authorities on Thursday ordered random testing of 2 percent of international travelers entering India.
Besides, the Yonhap News Agency reported that the South Korean health authorities listed China in as a"key country for quarantine and inspection" on December 16 to strengthen the management of Chinese travelers. If the body temperature exceeds 37.3 degrees, the accompanying personnel must undergo nucleic acid testing together.
