(ECNS) -- A Panamanian container shipcarrying 12 TEUs of cargo departed from Quanzhou City in southeast China’s Fujian Province on Thursday, heading for Russian port city Vladivostok.
It marked the second trade route between Quanzhou and Europe after the freight train linking the city and Moscow earlier this year.
The ship carried industrial products made in Quanzhou, including electric motors, rowing machines, mechanical parts, wipers and more, andis scheduled to arrive in Vladivostok in six days. The cargo will then be transported to St. Petersburg in 24 days via freight trains.
The new sea route has the advantages of large capacity, short voyage and strong stability, said an insider.
Quanzhou is an important origin of the ancient Maritime Silk Road and is a major city for the production and export of light industrial products in China, with annual exportof textile, clothing, footwear and other light industrial products exceeding 100 billion yuan ($14.25 billion).
In recent years, Russia has gradually become an important transit hub for Quanzhou’s products exported to Europe.
