(ECNS) -- High-temperature events across China have lasted for 30 days this year, affecting more than 900 million people, the country's National Climate Center said on Wednesday.
As of Tuesday, China has sweated through 5.3 high-temperature days on average since June, 2.4 days more than the same period in average years. The number of high-temperature days tops the same period since 1961, data from the National Climate Center shows.
The number of high-temperature days was 5-10 days more than the same period of the previous year in Shaanxi Province, Henan Province, Hebei Province, Shandong Province, Anhui Province, Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, Hubei Province, Chongqing City, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
According to statistics, the temperatures of 71 national meteorological stations have broken the highest numbers in history, among which the daily highest temperature of Lingshou county, Gaocheng district, Zhengding County of Hebei Province, and Yanjin county of Yunnan Province reached over 44℃.
At least six people have been diagnosed with thermoplegia, the most severe form of heat stroke, in Zhejiang and Sichuan Provinces this year.
