(ECNS) -- Tiankun-2, the experimental satellite developed by the China Aerospace Science & Industry Corporation (CASIC), is in the final stage of testing and scheduled to be launched soon, according to Ma Jie, deputy of the 13th National People's Congress and Party Chief of the Second Academy of CASIC.
Having inherited the high functional density of Tiankun-1, Tiankun-2 has lower manufacturing cost and a smaller size, said Ma in Beijing.
Tiankun-1 is the first experimental satellite independently developed by CASIC and was sent into orbit in 2017. It has been running smoothly for five years since its launch on March 3, 2017, according to CASIC.
It has generated about 80 gigabytes of telemeasuring data and completed around 7,300 times of measurements.
The company has built China's first small satellite production line in Wuhan Satellite Industrial Park to meet the growing demand for the construction of satellite constellations.
Featuring "flexible intelligence and cloud-manufacturing," the production line has made breakthroughs in 11 key technologies since its operation in May 2015 and improved productivity by more than three times.
