(ECNS) -- A full circle track spanning the mountain ridges to resemble the shape of a mythical Chinese dragon will be built for the bobsleigh, skeleton and luge events of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

It will also be the world's first 360-degree race track.

Racers would reach top speeds of 134.4 kmph on the downhill sprint section, so track construction requirements are extremely high, with the most challenging building projects located at the Yanqing venues in Beijing, according to Li Changzhou, deputy general manager of BEREGL Jing Ao Construction.

National Sliding Centre, the venue for the bobsleigh, skeleton and luge events, will be built to top world standards, it was added.

Construction work has started on 44 out of 52 infrastructure projects for hosting the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, according to authorities.

Construction of the four new venues located in Yanqing has begun, with more than half the required work already complete on National Alpine Ski and National Sliding centres, according to Liu Lifeng, an official from the Beijing Major Projects Office.

To minimize the impact of construction on the environment, underground utility tunnels built to serve Olympics venues are being fully utilized in Yanqing. The 7.9-kilometer-long corridor, which passes through a mountain, carries electricity, water supply pipes, and TV and communications cables.

The international winter multi-sport event is scheduled to take place in the urban area of Beijing, Beijing’s Yanqing District and Zhangjiakou in neighbouring Hebei Province.
