(ECNS) - Chinese graduates from foreign universities mostly prefer to work in finance and technological fields when seeking jobs back in the country, said a report by networking site LinkedIn.
It showed an increasing number of Chinese students who returned after finishing studying abroad from 2011 to 2017.
The proportion of those aged 20 to 29 dropped from 79.9 percent in 2013 to 52.2 percent in 2017, while among all returned students, those aged 30 to 40 increased dramatically from 16.5 percent in 2013 to 30.6 in 2017.
After finishing their overseas education, students are mostly interested in working in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, followed by the cities of Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Suzhou. In central and western China, Chengdu City was also favored by many for its rapid development in recent years.
From a historical perspective, Shanghai and Beijing are losing their appeal and new first-tier cities including Hangzhou and Chengdu have attracted more attention.
Data also showed the high-tech industry has gradually surpassed manufacturing by a small margin to become the second most sought-after sector for job-seekers following finance.
From 2011 to 2017, there was little change in the number of professionals with an overseas degree in business administration. But the number of returned students in computer science had tripled in the period, perhaps due to the booming Internet industry in China, said the report.
