Scenes from famous battles, and the men who fought in them, decorate Zhang Shengde's studio.
In his youth, the 63-year-old artist used to be a movie projectionist, and always retained a photographer's eye for detail. But three years ago, Zhang decided to create a series of portraits of heroes who gave their lives for their country. He researched each of his subjects meticulously.
After a painstaking process, Zhang completed one-hundred portraits of war heroes who died between 1932 and 1945. He presents them in chronological order according to their dates of death.
