    Senior PLA official holds bilateral meetings during Shangri-La Dialogue

    Sun Jianguo, China's Vice Chief of Staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), separately held bilateral meetings with Singapore's Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen as well as delegates from New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Switzerland on the sidelines of the 14th Shangri-La Dialogue.

    During the meetings, Sun elaborated the Chinese military's international cooperation on global security matters, and the public security products it provides to the global community. They exchanged views on bilateral military ties and issues of common concerns in the region and the world.

    Singapore's Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen thanked the Chinese delegate to participate in the Shangri-La Dialogue, and voiced support to China's stand on peaceful development in the region.

    New Zealand's Defense Minister Gerry Brownlee said that China is very important to their country, and Wellington takes no position on the territorial dispute over sovereignty.

    Brownlee said he is satisfied with the development of ties between the two armies. He expressed hopes that China and New Zealand can enhance cooperation and safeguard peace in the region and the world collaboratively.

    Sri Lanka's State Minister of Defense Ruwan Wijewardene stated that Colombo fully supports one-China policy and China's stance on the South China Sea issues.

    Thai military supreme commander Worapong Sanganetra said that the Thai government and the army are willing to push forwards ties with China, and Bangkok will spare no efforts to the peaceful resolution of South China Sea issues with other countries together.

    Christian Catrina, official from Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport, said China is a defender and supporter of international and regional security, and that Swiss military has established close relationship with China and hopes to deepen cooperation with the PLA.
