A squad of 110 riot police arrived in Hohhot, capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on Thursday after fulfilling an eight-month UN peacekeeping mission in Liberia, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

The police officers were part of China's second deployment to the west African nation, according to a statement of the ministry.

They were replaced by a third unit which consists of 140 police officers, including 5 women.

China sent its first riot police squad to join UN peacekeeping missions in Liberia in October 2013.

Most of the members in the second unit were selected from field police officers in Inner Mongolia. They passed UN examinations in December after months of training in international law, English, driving and first aid before they were sent.

Currently, there are more than 170 Chinese riot police members on peacekeeping missions that include Liberia, South Sudan, Cyprus and at the UN headquarters, according to the statement.
