General Fang Fenghui, Chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, is on an official visit to the United States.

On Wednesday, Fang attended a ceremony at the National Defense University in Washington, where he gave books including the ancient military treatise The Art of War to the students there.

He said China and the US should cherish the stable situation of ties. The future relationship between the two sides shouldn't be affected by any new distractions.

Earlier on Tuesday, General Fang toured the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan and the combat ship USS Coronado. On Thursday, General Fang will meet his US counterpart, Martin Dempsey at the Pentagon and hold a joint press conference afterwards. He will wrap up his tour at the US State Army Forces Command in North Carolina.
