Fleets hold escort warship open day activities

On the fourth anniversary of the naval escort in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast by the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), the North China Sea Fleet, the East China Sea Fleet and the South China Sea Fleet of the Chinese PLA Navy held open day activities of escort warships successively from December 25, 2012. In the past two days, the "Qingdao", "Guangzhou" and "Shenzhen" guided missile destroyers and the "Zhoushan" guided missile frigate were visited by 8,000-odd people from all sectors of the society at the ports of the cities they are named after respectively.

All the four warships have carried out such major tasks as escort in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast. During the open day activities, each of them carried one helicopter and ten special operation members who were armed with light arms and special operation equipment for diving, reconnaissance, communication, protection, etc.

The "Zhoushan" guided missile frigate was scheduled to be open to the public on December 25 and 26, and the "Qingdao" guided missile destroyer, the "Guangzhou" guided missile destroyer and the "Shenzhen" guided missile destroyer were planned to be open to the public from December 26 to December 28.

During the activities, visitors could not only visit the warships and have "zero-distance" contacts with the escort warships, helicopters and special operation equipment, but also have an opportunity to watch escort pictures and videos as well as anti-piracy demonstration by the special operation members on the ships.

Meanwhile, a public lecture on meritorious deeds of excellent escort sailors will be held, and the officers and men on the warships will visit corresponding cities in batches.
