On February 14, 2012, the meeting of commemorating the 60th anniversary of assigning military representatives by the Air Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and promoting the comprehensive construction of the PLA Air Force military representative system was held in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan province.
The PLA Air Force introduced the military representative system for the first time on February 8, 1952. During the past 60 years, the system has expanded from 11 military representatives to over 100 military representative offices with more than 2,000 representatives today.
The past 60 years have witnessed the duties of the PLA Air Force military representatives broadening from product examination, spare parts preparation and goods ordering only to comprehensively ordering equipment, participating in the equipment development and supervising and managing the development and production quality of equipment, from monitoring the quality of domestically-ordered products to manufacture supervision and technical inspection of equipment introduced from abroad.
In the past 60 years, generations of PLA Air Force military representatives have delivered dozens of thousands of airplanes and engines of various types, about tens of millions of rounds of air ammunition and thousands of sets of typical ground equipment to the army, navy and air force of the PLA, making great contribution to the development of PLA's weaponry and equipment.
