Shanghai elderly care expo marks 25 years, AI products for seniors draw attention

(ECNS) -- International Exhibition of Senior Care, Rehabilitation Medicine and Healthcare, also known as China AID, will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year in Shanghai. According to the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs, the China AID 2025 is scheduled to be held from June 11 to June 13, with growing public interest in AI-powered products tailored for elderly care.

Shanghai has the highest aging population rate in China, with 5.7762 million of its residents aged 60 and above as of 2024, accounting for 37.6 percent of the city’s registered population, according to an official of the city’s Bureau of Civil Affairs.

The official emphasized that integrating aging-related strategies into urban development is key to addressing the challenges of deep population aging.

The 2025 expo is expected to feature exhibitors from 16 countries and regions, including China, Japan, and Australia. Notably, both Japan and Australia will send dedicated national delegations to the event.

With an exhibition area of approximately 50,000 square meters, the event will host around 500 companies. Among them are several well-known tech enterprises showcasing smart home solutions aimed at revolutionizing elderly care.

Ma Zhiwen, assistant general manager of Shanghai Intex Exhibition Co., Ltd., noted that one major trend in the so-called “silver economy” is the shift in product design -- from mere function replacement to human-machine integration.

Compared with previous years, this year’s product offerings are more lightweight and user-friendly. Pricing has also become more consumer-oriented, moving away from the traditionally high-cost products used by professional institutions toward affordable solutions suitable for home use by elderly individuals, she added.
