Seven Chinese nurses receive 50th Florence Nightingale Award

(ECNS) -- Seven Chinese nurses were honored with the 50th Florence Nightingale Award, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced on Monday.

A total of 35 nurses from 17 countries received the award this year, which recognizes exceptional courage and devotion to caring for the wounded, sick or disabled, or to civilian victims of conflict and disaster. China had the highest number of awardees among all participating countries.

The seven Chinese recipients are:

Feng Ling (female), a nurse at the AIDS Clinical Training Center of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University;

Han Lin (female), vice president of Gansu Provincial Hospital;

Leung Wai-yin (male), senior medical volunteer at the Hong Kong Red Cross;

Qin Yuling (female), head nurse of the Emergency Department at the Fifth Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital;

Tian Li (female), director of the Clinical Nursing Center at Tianjin Third Central Hospital;

Xing Hong (female), chief nurse of the Oncology Center at Shanghai General Hospital;

Zhang Yulian(female), chief nurse at Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital.

The Florence Nightingale Award is presented biennially by the ICRC and is regarded as the highest international honor for nursing professionals.
