(ECNS) -- Apple's CEO Tim Cook on Monday poked at Microsoft for the low numbers of PC users adopting Windows 8.
In his keynote speech that kicked off Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2014 in San Francisco, Cook said 51 percent of Mac users are on OS X Mavericks, while just 14 percent of Windows users have switched to Windows 8.
Industry experts have pointed out that the high cost of upgrading is a major reason why many PC users choose not to install Windows 8.
According to newly released figures by Net Applications, a web analytics firm, Windows 8 ranked fourth in terms of user adoption in May, down to 6.29 percent from 6.36 percent in April. The top three operating systems were Windows 7, Windows XP and Windows 8.1, with 50.06, 25.27 and 6.35 percent usage share respectively.
The figures also show 90.99 percent of PC users are on Windows, while Mac OS X has a market share of 7.39 percent.

蘋果公司CEO庫克在今年的開發者大會上做開幕演講。在介紹蘋果Mac電腦的操作系統時，庫克將蘋果公司去年發布的Mac操作系統Mavericks與微軟推出的Windows 8進行了對比。由于Windows 8的用戶接受度低而遭到庫克“嘲諷”。
庫克表示，在用戶接受度上，Mac操作系統Mavericks遠高于Windows 8。“Windows 8的用戶比例僅有14%，而Mavericks則達到51%�！�
調研機構Net Applications昨天公布的數據顯示，今年5月份Windows 7全球市場份額為50.06%，較4月份有所反彈，繼續高居榜首。Windows XP位居第二，市場份額為25.27%，略低于4月份的26.29%。
Windows 8.1排名第三，市場份額從4月份的5.88%提高到6.35%。Windows 8緊隨其后，市場份額從4月份的6.36%降至6.29%。
報告還顯示，5月份Windows整體市場份額從4月份的90.80%增至90.99%，而蘋果Mac OS X市場份額降至7.39%，Linux市場份額增至1.62%。
