2013 global South-South development expo opens

The 2013 global South-South development expo was opened in the Kenyan capital Nairobi on Monday with UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson expecting emerging nations to contribute more to a peaceful and prosperous world.

"The global South has made tremendous progress in all aspects of human endeavor for the last decade. Developing countries are the new frontier for economic and technological progress that has impacted on the entire world," Eliasson said.

Since its launch in 2008, the expo has fostered fruitful cooperation in tackling global challenges including hunger, poverty, climate change and diseases.

The international community supports partnership among emerging nations to share experience and best practices that would catalyze sustainable development.

The conference brought together senior delegates from 150 countries and across the UN system to discuss development challenges by harnessing and exchanging innovative solutions developed in the global South.

According to the UN, over 5 trillion U. S. dollars in reserves are today held by countries of the South, which now also account for 47 percent of global trade. This unmatched economic development opportunity could be one of the main engines of growth in the years ahead.

聯(lián)合國官員稱南南合作帶來全球發(fā)展新變化

第六屆全球南南發(fā)展博覽會(huì)２８日在肯尼亞首都內(nèi)羅畢開幕，出席博覽會(huì)的聯(lián)合國官員表示，發(fā)展中國家合作的興起將構(gòu)建全球合作發(fā)展新秩序，促進(jìn)世界和平和繁榮發(fā)展。

聯(lián)合國常務(wù)副秘書長埃利亞松在博覽會(huì)開幕式上說，過去十年，南方國家的合作得到巨大發(fā)展，發(fā)展中國家現(xiàn)在已成為經(jīng)濟(jì)和科技進(jìn)步的新前沿，所取得的成就已影響世界。

埃利亞松同時(shí)強(qiáng)調(diào)，盡管南南合作成果豐碩，但挑戰(zhàn)仍然存在。全球氣候變暖、貧困、食品安全和疾病可能會(huì)給發(fā)展中國家?guī)戆l(fā)展困難。全球南南發(fā)展論壇的意義在于各國能交流經(jīng)驗(yàn)，探討解決健康、貿(mào)易、農(nóng)業(yè)等關(guān)鍵領(lǐng)域現(xiàn)存問題的途徑。

聯(lián)合國副秘書長、聯(lián)合國環(huán)境署執(zhí)行主任阿希姆·施泰納說，本屆全球南南發(fā)展博覽會(huì)不僅是展示經(jīng)濟(jì)和技術(shù)合作的交流平臺(tái)，還是南南國家、南北國家之間的一種新對(duì)話。這種新對(duì)話有別于過去北方國家開創(chuàng)發(fā)展模式再由南方國家效仿的狀況，而是展示南南發(fā)展形成的新范例，展示新興國家中正在進(jìn)行的大膽變革。

全球南南發(fā)展博覽會(huì)始于２００８年，由各聯(lián)合國機(jī)構(gòu)分別在其總部承辦。第六屆全球南南發(fā)展博覽會(huì)為期５天，由總部設(shè)在內(nèi)羅畢的聯(lián)合國環(huán)境規(guī)劃署承辦，主題為“建設(shè)綠色經(jīng)濟(jì)：通過南南合作實(shí)現(xiàn)可持續(xù)發(fā)展和消除貧困”。這是聯(lián)合國第一次在發(fā)展中國家舉辦全球南南發(fā)展博覽會(huì)。包括中國在內(nèi)的１５０個(gè)國家和聯(lián)合國其他部門的代表將就各項(xiàng)議題展開討論，共有７０多家企業(yè)和組織參加展覽。
