Lu Yingmei works in a plum orchard at the foot of Daba Mountains in Xuanhan County, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province. Lu is a member of a team responsible for managing 270,000 plum trees in an area of 400 hectares. After graduating from Dachong Agricultural School in 2017, she gave up the chance to work in a more well-developed coastal area, instead devoting herself to developing her hometown. She eats and lives in the mountains. As the youngest in the team, she leads the technical department with six members. Her main duties are to maintain contact with Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Science, report on the growth of the plum trees as well as the progress of any experiments, and promote knowledge and skills to other workers in the orchard.
