The control tower, known as the "Eye of Phoenix", will be responsible for handling at least 70 percent of air traffic through the airport. The tower stands 70.3 meters tall, with 20 floors above ground and one floor below, and covers an area of 2,000 square meters. A project manager at BUCC, the tower’s builder, said new materials and technologies have been used to increase the safety of the tower, where systems are being installed and debugged. The airport completed its first test flights of passenger planes in May and operations will begin there before the end of September. It is expected to handle 45 million passengers annually by 2021 and 72 million by 2025. (Photo/IC)
