The burden on the respiratory tract and lungs is much heavier in heavy smoggy weather, so below are a few food recommendations that can help you maintain your health under such conditions.

    1 Tremella fuciformis

This is a fungus species. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is good for the lungs and will relieve coughing. Tremella fuciformis can be cooked with lotus seeds.

    Recipe:

    Tremella fuciformis soup:

    Dried tremella fuciformis 15 grams

    Lotus seed 15 grams

    Rock sugar

    Method:

1 Put the tremella fuciformis in water for two hours.

2 Tear it up into small pieces. Throw the yellow part away.

    3 Wash lotus seeds.

4 Put tremella fuciformis, lotus seeds, rock sugar and water into a pot.

5 Boil the mixture, and then keep boiling on low heat for one hour.

    2 Pear

The pear is believed to provide nourishment to the lungs. It is dry in autumn and winter in Northern China, and pears can relieve discomfort caused by drought. Those who feel it is too cold to eat pears during the winter can cut one or two pears into pieces, boil them with water and put some rock sugar into the broth.

    3 Almonds

Ancient Chinese people believe almonds are good for the lungs and heart. Modern science has discovered that almonds contain unsaturated fatty acids which have vitamin E and flavonoid and also serve as a good antioxidant. Eating almonds will help with your immune system.

    4 Chinese water chestnut

More often called water chestnut, this is actually a kind of vegetable with crisp white flesh. It is good for the throat which can also be harmed by smog. The vegetable can be eaten after slightly boiled and then the peel is removed.

    5 Leaf vegetables

It is said that eating leaf vegetables will help to fight against smog. This rumor is actually quite "reasonable". Leaf vegetables contain chlorophyll and carotene. Chlorophyll decreases the mutagenesis of chemical toxins in the human body, and carotene enhances resistance and repair capacity of epithelium in the respiratory tract.
