(ECNS) -- At the start of the new year, trainees practice diligently at the Pei Lei Chinese Martial Arts Association in Sydney’s western suburb, as the powerful clash of weapons and bursts of applause echo continuously.

Dong Bei, founder of the association, said that the 10th World Kungfu Championships will take place in Emeishan city in southwest China’s Sichuan in October and they are intensively training, aiming to win more gold medals for the Australian team.

Pei Lei Chinese Martial Arts Association has a 30-year history, during which it has developed numerous outstanding students and coaches, achieving remarkable success in promoting Chinese martial arts and Tai Chi culture.

Dong said proudly that at the 9th World Kungfu Championships held at Emeishan city in August, 2023, the Australian team she led won one gold, two silver, and eight bronze medals.

For many years, the association has not only achieved outstanding results in competitive martial arts but has also been dedicated to the inheritance and cultural promotion of Chinese martial arts. Currently, five disciples have become sixth-generation inheritors of Yang-style Tai Chi, including native Australians.

One of the association’s first students, Australian Yakov, stated that this is no longer just a martial arts school but a community of unity and shared values, adding that this school has enriched Australia’s multiculturalism through the promotion of Chinese martial arts.

Dong said that her intention was to let more people understand Chinese martial arts culture and promote its inheritance in Australia. Seeing students, from 5-year-old children to 88-year-old seniors, be passionate about martial arts and Tai Chi, she felt great joy.

Dong noted, “These students’ enthusiasm and perseverance have contributed to the thriving development of the Pei Lei Chinese Martial Arts Association.”
